“ Potions ”
Horace Slughorn - 37-68 - HP Wiki
We all know Professor Horace Slughorn - exceptional potioneer, Head of Slytherin House, and founder of the Slug Club! Many of the characters already on the site will have been in the Slug Club, so he will have a lot of connections that you can explore!

Horace is the only person who knows that Tom Riddle was looking into Horcruxes - so it will be interesting to see the two of them together in the present. Horace may have had a role in Tom’s getting hired at Hogwarts, since he will undoubtedly believe that Tom never actually went through with creating a Horcrux.

Since Slughorn is a wealth of knowledge, he will undoubtedly be a wonderful resource for Tom in the present. That said, it is entirely possible that Horace will be suspicious of his former student, especially if Dumbledore has been sharing his concerns and suspicions with his old friend.

“ Herbology ”
Herbert Beery - 30+ - HP Wiki
Herbert Beery is the Herbology Professor at Hogwarts, and “an enthusiastic devotee of amateur dramatics”. In 1965, he will leave Hogwarts to teach at The Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts, after his productions at Hogwarts were “cursed”.

Not much is known about Herbert, so he is pretty open! His age and race are open for negotiation, as is his family makeup and background. Make sure to check in with the admins if you have questions about Herbert’s role at Hogwarts and in future plots!

“ Care of Magical Creatures ”
Silvanus Kettleburn - 30+ - HP Wiki
Silvanus Kettleburn is a former Hufflepuff, and the Care of Magical Creatures professor at Hogwarts.

We all know that Kettleburn ends up retiring in 1993 in order to spend time with his remaining limbs - so we can safely assume he’s a little bit reckless. This is further proven by the fact that over the course of his career, he accumulated over sixty probation periods.

Kettleburn will go on to participate in the Battle of Hogwarts, so it’s safe to assume that he’s an inherently good guy. He likely taught Tom Riddle when he was a student, but probably didn’t have a particularly close relationship with him at the time. He will likely have a positive relationship with Rubeus Hagrid.

“ Groundskeeper ”
Rubeus Hagrid - 22 - HP Wiki
Rubeus Hagrid - half-giant, former Gryffindor, and Keeper of the Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts following his expulsion from Hogwarts in his third year.

Albus Dumbledore arranged for Hagrid to be allowed to live on the Hogwarts Grounds, and care for the school’s crops, grounds, and animals. He carries with him a pink umbrella, which contains the fragments of his wand (or, according to the wiki, possibly his intact wand, if that was arranged with Dumbledore).

Hagrid should be quite loyal to Dumbledore. And Hagrid’s expulsion was what really solidified Dumbledore’s suspicions about the attacks in school. Neither of them necessarily know that Tom Riddle was to blame - either for the attacks themselves, or for the set-up that resulted in Hagrid’s expulsion, but Dumbledore has always been suspicious.

Now that Tom Riddle is back at Hogwarts, I’m sure there will be interesting plot potential between Tom, Hagrid, and Dumbledore. Make sure to check in with the admins regarding specifics for Hagrid’s magical potential!

Quidditch
Rolanda Hooch - 32+ - HP Wiki
Rolanda Hooch is the Flying Professor, and Quidditch Coach/Referee at Hogwarts. She has loved flying since her youth, and was quite likely to have been on her House quidditch team while in school.

She fondly remembers her Silver Arrow broomstick, which was damaged by a muggle anti-aircraft weapon during the war (which she found highly insulting). The Ministry of Magic’s Department of Magical Games and Sports hired her as the Hogwarts Quidditch Referee - she formally became the first-year flight instructor after undergoing a series of rigorous and complicated tests.

Rolanda is known for a strong sense of fair-play and clean games. She is referred to as Madam Hooch, and should have piercing yellow eyes, like a hawk.

“ Hogwarts Matron ”
Poppy Pomfrey - 21+ - HP Wiki
Poppy Pomfrey is the Matron at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she runs the Hospital Wing. She is known to be highly competent, and very protective of students who are in her care.

She is considered kind, yet strict, and has a few obsessive tendencies. Her house and blood are unknown, but she was most likely at least a half-blood. She is a very caring person, and will go on to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts. Please note that she will be working at Hogwarts in 2020, so she will be fairly young at this stage - possibly even as a junior matron at the school.

“ Hogwarts librarian ”
Irma Pince - 25+ - HP Wiki
Irma Pince is the librarian at Hogwarts, and is considered by the students to be incredibly strict and unhelpful.

Of course, much of that may be chalked up to the students’ perception of her. She is a skilled witch, who easily casts jinxes and hexes on items, and can effectively cast counter-curses on living people.

Irma doesn’t want food or drinks in the library, for fear that they might damage the ancient collection of books. She dislikes talking, laughing, sneezing, and scurrying, as well as any other “suspicious” behavior. She has a feather duster that she brandishes at students who are being disruptive (and that she uses to manually dust the shelves).

Much of her background is open - age, blood, house, and ethnicity are negotiable!

“ Other Hogwarts Staff ”
other available roles
Several other faculty/staff roles at Hogwarts are available, but do not have a canon person in the position in 1950. These can be filled by minor/obscure canons, or original characters.
