Explaining to his family that “something” had happened was probably the worst part of the entire ordeal in Hogsmeade. He’d been wounded, yes, and suffered some added trauma from Walburga Black’s unintentional use of wandless magic, but the worst really had been trying to find a phone, so that he could call the nanny and ask her to drive all the way down to London to deliver his son to his parents.

And she had been the one to explain to them that “something” had happened, and Theo wouldn’t be home for “a few days”, and there would be no good way of reaching him until then. He knew, even as he lay in his own bloody, shredded clothes in a cot in a hallway at St. Mungo’s, that his entire family was going through something far worse than he was. The guilt was absolutely killer, but he found himself thanking God and the Founders that he’d survived… and hadn’t sustained a single bite.

Oh, and that the animals at the zoo had survived. That would have been just one more thing…

He’d spent a few days making it up to them - apologizing profusely to his parents and siblings, letting them know that there had been an incident without explaining exactly what it was. Really, what good would it have done any of them, to know that the things rumored to go bump in the night were… well, slightly more than rumors.

And then there had been Liam, who, at five years old, had a firm grasp on what it meant when Dad doesn’t come home. There had been a lot of one-on-one time in the days that followed, filled with comfort and reassurance, and praise and thanks for being such a big boy and taking care of Nana and Papa while Dad was away. It seemed to help, but Theo was still hardly surprised to find that Liam somehow made it into his bedroom every night since he got back.

Of course, there was one other niggling thought in the back of his mind, one that called out to him even as he focused on every other aspect of his rather ridiculous life - Louise.

They’d confirmed, for his sake, that she had survived the ordeal. But that was all they could say. Had she been hurt? Had she been bitten? Had she even been there at all? If not for that bloody Kneazle (who he was in the process of tracking down, just to put his mind at ease), he might have been with her at the time… and, if nothing else, it would have made him rest easier to know she’d been with him, rather than alone, or with some random person off the street.

Once settled back in at home, in Yalding, he tried to get back into life “as usual”. But what was that, anymore? Explosions and zombies and werewolves and dating. It was like living in a film. Still. He sent her a note - just a short one, just to mention that he’d be getting espresso and tiramisu at a certain time, on a certain date, if she happened to be walking through the village at that time.

And he felt pixies in his stomach the entire walk down, and the entire time he sat at the same little table in the same little corner of the same little shop they’d gone to when all of this had started. A chance meeting in a grocery store that may have meant nothing, but… maybe, just maybe, it did. Theo heard the door open and looked up with a small, relieved smile, and got gingerly to his feet to pull out the chair across from his. “It was a date…”

The not-a-date had been going quite well, at least Theo thought so. For how little experience he actually had in both dating and not-a-date-ing, even he could pick up on the fact that both he and Louise had been smiling and laughing far more often than not, so much so that his face actually ached from the use of muscles that, it seemed, were rarely used. His stomach flipped and flopped in a way that he hadn’t actually experienced in years, and even now that they were on opposite sides of the event, he found himself grinning like a bit of an idiot.

Even the angry, snarling kneazle half-attached to his arm couldn’t quite shake the stupid smile from his face. Theo had never been a big animal person, but he now had a kneazle of his own at home, and one with a litter of kittens at that. He’d wrangled her enough times since she’d first turned up - this terrible beast hardly phased him. It sank its claws in and chewed ferociously on his arm, but barely made it through his jacket sleeve.

He trotted into the petting zoo and rather idly jostled the cat-like creature back into his enclosure, when the screams began.

Louise...

The single-mindedness of his thoughts quickly evaporated as he turned just in time to see a shadow fall over him, and a young blonde woman nearby. “WATCH OUT!” His eyes widened, and in an instant his wand was out and he leapt in between the blonde and the beast.

Why was he so bloody nervous? It wasn’t like this was a date or anything, and even if it was a date, it wasn’t as if he’d never been on one of those before. Granted, it had been something along the lines of six years since his last one, and he’d been rather dragged along for the ride for the duration of that particular fling, and, of course, the woman in question did end up leaving a newborn on his doorstep before turning up dead a few weeks later - but still! He’d gone on dates before…

Not that this was a date. Of course it wasn’t.

No, this was just two old friends getting together on a crisp autumn evening to enjoy each other’s company at a festival with all sorts of lanterns and games and entertainment and sweets and oh, god, this was totally a date.

Theo mentally kicked himself from one end of the high street and back again. Even spending the first part of the festival with Dorian had done little to set his mind at ease over this whole situation that he found himself in. He moved to Yalding to remove himself from complications - and instead, he’d walked right into one at the market before even finishing moving his furniture in.

Louise Owen was exactly the sort of complicated that he didn’t need in his life. She was beautiful, and charming, and funny, and she liked cats, and -- Damnit, Theodore, quit! scolded the voice in his mind. He didn’t date. He’d never been one to form romantic attachments. He had his work. He had his family, and his brothers in arms. He had his son. That was really all he needed, wasn’t it?

But they just connected so well, and so quickly. That never happened - sure, Theo was personable and friendly and made easy work of smalltalk and conversations, but it never felt like such a balanced, two-way street. He was skilled at making other people comfortable with him - she made him feel comfortable with her. Witchcraft and sorcery, clearly.

She’s a witch, you idiot... he scolded himself as he rocked back and forth on his heels for a moment, peering around at all the food stands that surrounded him. He could see it off in the distance - the brightly-colored and almost painfully illuminated tent at the end, with the huge sign declaring its legendary tiramisu. That damned cake… it had better be worth it, for all the trouble it had already caused him.

Every woman who passed by with hair like hers made his stomach churn in a weird sense of anticipation that he hadn’t felt in years. Why was it doing that? Stop. He was early - he was always early - but he found himself wondering if she’d even show up. She wasn’t late yet, but it felt as if he’d been waiting for hours.

And then… there she was. Theo couldn’t help or control the broad smile that broke out across his face as she came into view, and he practically sprung over to her with a stupid smile and a small bow. “I’ll admit, I’ve been waiting half the day for this,” he said pleasantly. “Couldn’t risk eating anything that may alter my experience with this legendary tiramisu. I think I saw elves in that tent, so I’m a bit more skeptical than I was originally, but… I’m still game if you are, Ms. Owen. Rubric at the ready?”

This is Emily*!

Now, one thing that you need to understand about Theodore Wood is that he is the most oblivious man on the planet, at least where women and romance are concerned. He has only ever been in one relationship, which spanned a total of six months more than five years ago, and resulted in the birth of his son, Liam (5), and the death of his ex-girlfriend. He's flown solo ever since.

Enter Emily*.

Now, Emily and Theo were friends back at Hogwarts - she was a year or two behind him, but they were Gryffindor Prefects together and shared a lot of the same values, so they really clicked. While she may have had feelings for him (or not, that's up to you!), he was so focused on making good marks to get accepted to the Auror Training Program that he never noticed or thought to act on any feelings he might have felt himself.

After leaving Hogwarts, they drifted apart along their own paths, as you do - he became an Auror, and she took on a career of her own (open, but nothing in the Ministry, please). They haven’t really seen or heard from each other in the last 12 years or so, but that’s about to change.

Theo has just moved to a small farm at the edge of the muggle village of Yalding in an attempt to keep his personal life, and his son, separate from the Wizarding World. He chose Yalding for its size, its welcoming vibes, and, most importantly, the fact that there seemed to be no magical folk living there.

Except for, as he will soon learn, Emily.

Why she’s living there is up to you, but she will likely be just as surprised as Theo is to find another wizard living in Yalding. Nevertheless, after the initial shock wears off (oh, yes, he will panic over the idea of yet another witch/wizard knowing about his son and knowing where he lives, which, as an auror, is a risk), these two will be able to reconnect.

Where it goes from there is negotiable! Friendship and romance are both on the table, since, at her core, Emily is going to be a person for Theo to lean on who exists outside of the Ministry, and outside of his muggle family. Please keep in mind, if they are going to become romantically involved, I would prefer for that to develop organically, and Emily will need to display a lot patience and persistence to get him to see that as a possibility.

Emily should be 26-28 years old, single, a former Gryffindor, and either half-blooded or muggleborn. I envision her being a lively person who encourages others to relax and enjoy themselves from time to time, since that is the exact role that I want her to adopt in Theo’s life - she will become his anchor, his voice of calm and reason, and the person who helps to remind him that there is still good in the world.

Her name, family, face/ethnicity, and occupation are up to you (though, please, nothing in the Ministry), and you are free to sign her up for a role in one of our awesome subplots!

My Discord is FoxFace#4790 if you’re interested!
